We were unable to leave AZ till the middle of May and the weather there was 100 + we wanted somewhere cooler so off we went and ended up in of all places Death Valley where it was 110 + I know what were we thinking. All in all it was really wonderful and well worth the trip.
Here you see the Death Valley floor covered with Borax and an old borax mine where they processed the borax. Remember the 20 mule team.
I just had to go off the main road and explore a little.
That was enough heat and off we went to the California coast.
We started off in Oxnard CA. visiting some friends that we met Beverly & Jerry the weather was 60 - 70 and over cast. Almost every night the heater came on and that was really nice. then off to Pismo Beach CA to see my Godmother and 2nd cousin Rita and her husband Ed. We had a great time there. We stayed at a park that was wright in the ocean and was able to walk on the beach every day. The weather was still great 60 to 70 during the day and cool at night.
We all went to the Oceano Elks Lodge for dinner
We were able to drive down onto the beach and watch the sunset.
.We saw everything here people drove there RVs on the beach and stayed for days.
After a long swim its time for a nap.
"Continuing up the coast"
Along the way we stayed at the Gilroy Elks Lodge, the Vallejo Elks Lodge and the Eureka Elks Lodge before leaving California. When we entered Oregon the coastal view was the most breathtaking thing that we have ever seen. We stayed at the Brookings Elks Lodge in southern OR.
The coast in Southern Oregon was the most beautiful we have ever seen they call this the natural bridge.
Above you would think it was warm because people are in the water, they are nuts. it was only 65 and real windy this day, also the water is only about 55.
Now we moved onto Florence OR and stayed at the Elks Lodge there. This was really a cool place the ares is loaded with sand dunes. The people play on them like some would play in snow, but they have on shorts. They sled down and boogie board down the dunes, they ride 4wheelers. motorcycles and dune buggies.
I was climbing one of the sand dunes to take some pictures and walked past this young man digging a hole. There are signs everywhere saying no digging allowed. When I walked past him I mentioned to him not to dig over his head, and that it could cave in and kill him. He said he was alright it was solid. After climbing to the top and taking videos and pictures I saw every one running to the hole, I also ran down the sand dune knowing what had happened. The young man laying into the hole was able to clear the sand away from the guys head so he could breath. Soon 911 arrived and brought lots of shovels. we all dug for around 2 hrs to free him. When he got free he told the rescue workers he wished he had listened to the guy who told he that was not safe. I was glad to have been there to help. I WAS SORE FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER.
