Glacier National Park

We stayed in Bismark North Dakota for two days just to relax and do some food shopping. On our way to Billings Montana we stopped at Theodore Roosevelt National Park to check the Bad Lands.








OK we made it. Yesterday we arrived in Kalispell Montana and are staying at the Kalispell Elks # 725. Today we were very lucky with warm 75 degree weather and mostly sunny. We got up early and headed for Glacier National Park. I am going to let the pictures do the talking because words cannot do justice to the beauty of this National Park.

















We are leaving this area tomorrow and start heading back to Arizona for the winter. I am not sure where we are stopping yet but we will play it by ear. We will update along the way to let everyone know whats happening.

Heading to Glacier

OK here we go on the road and heading to Glacier National Park. Oops something is wrong. The jacks that level the rig are down and will not go up. My neighbor and friend Ron came over and helped me try to free them up. We were able to get 3 of them up and one 1/2 way up. Finally around noon I started down the road and headed to Decatur Indiana the home of the Fleetwood factory. We arrived safe and sound. Their policy is first come first serve after all scheduled appointments and warranty costumers are taken care of. So on Friday I woke up at 4:30 am, had breakfast and went to get in line. I was the 2^nd person and they came a callin’ around 6:30am to pick up the R.V. Buffy and I sat around till 11 am when they came and told us the R.V was repaired, so we hooked up the car and headed to Gaylord MI, the home of the Living Elks lodge. They have an Elk preserve that butts up to the lodge; people come and look at the Elk and other animals all day long. The weather became horrible 55, windy, and rainy. We met up with our friend from AZ. Ken and we had dinner at the Lodge. That night we tried to sleep, it was blowing 60 mph. the rain was coming in sideways and we were unable to sleep. When we got up I had to put on LONG PANTS and a sweatshirt. I am not happy hehehehe.

After talking with Ken and a guy in the lodge Buffy and I decided to stay for a few days. So on Saturday Buffy and I decided to see the town. It is a Bavarian styled town even the grocery store looks like a grandfather clock (left) City Hall is on right.

Driving through town Buffy saw a wonderful old friend of hers so we had to stop and say hello and to have lunch with him.

Sunday We took a ride to a town called Petoskey on Lake Michigan.

This is an outlet to Lake Michigan and people here fish for salmon. I didn't see anybody get anything.

We then drove from Petoskey to Cross Village and had lunch at Legs Inn. It is a wonderful Polish restaurant that is acknowledged by major magazines, TV and radio stations, newspapers, tour groups and guests from around the world. I have never heard of it till we got there.

Monday September 6^th I woke up at 4:30 am. Ken came over, picked me up at 6 am and off we went to walk the Mackinac Bridge. The bridge is 5 miles long. They take you by bus for $5 to St Ignace to start your walk and they reported 45,000 to 50,000 people walked the bridge. They have been doing this for 53 years. The bridge connects the upper peninsula of Michigan to the lower.

Here is the start of the walk, it was cloudy and the weather called for rain. It was cool as you can tell. The other side is 5 miles away.

Well here we are at the finish line and look, I think I found a new golfing buddy.



On Tuesday we traveled in high winds and rain to a casino called the Island Resort and casino and decided to stay for two days to wash clothes, fill the water tanks and empty the other two tanks. This was our first stay at a casino and will not be the last. On Wednesday after we washed cloths I had time to squeak in 18 holes at the casinos country club. What a beautiful course they have.

Thursday we traveled to Duluth MN and spent the night at the Elks lodge. Next to the rig was the biggest woodpecker I have ever seen. He was so busy eating he didn’t care that I was coming close to get a picture. We had tacos and beer and met some great people.

Friday I decided to make it a travel day and drove 450 miles to Bismarck North Dakota and are planning to spend a couple of days here. We started out in sunny weather in the morning then it started to rain and rain it did. Visibility was only about a few hundred feet, the sun came out again but it got real windy. We ran in to more clouds & more rain but all in all it was a good travel day. Our goal is to get to Glacier National Park in the next few days before the snow flies.
